"We shall not release Dr. Kizza Besigye until he faces the martial Law." The General Court Martial.

    in summary
UPDF is not ready to back off easily even after the supreme court ruling as they still want to have Dr. Kizza Besigye tried.

Yesterday, Ugandans were graced with the great news that the General Court Martial (GCM) or what many know as the military court has no jurisdiction to try civilians hence declaring its involvement in such cases unconstitutional and un called for.

Amidst celebration, many Ugandans were happy with the Supreme order from Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo when he announced that every civilian case that was being handled by the General Court Martial should therefore be transferred to the civilians' courts with immediate effect.

Very many Ugandans who were standing in solidarity with Former Leader of opposition Dr. Kizza Besigye were overjoyed by this piece of information as they saw hope for his case being judged fairly by a civilian court.

Sadly however, it seems like the UPDF is not ready to back off easily even after the supreme court ruling. Colonel Chris Magezi, the Military Assistant of the Chief of Defense Forces who happens to be in Charge of Public Relations released a UPDF official Statement regarding the ruling.

According to the statement, the General Court Martial is not ready to go easy on anyone who conspires to kill the President or tries to stage an armed rebellion or even anyone that engages in acts of terrorism.

"The General Court Martial will continue to TRY ANYONE WHO CONSPIRES TO MURDER THE PRESIDENT, COMMITS ARMED REBELLION AGAINST UGANDA, AND ENGAGES IN TERRORISM AGAINST THE PEOPLE OF UGANDA. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL COL. KIZZA BESIGYE BE RELEASED UNTIL HE FACES THE FULL EXTENT OF MARTIAL LAW. The final decision on this matter will be taken by the CIC and Chairman of the High Command, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni." Read the statement

This is proof that Dr. kizza Besigye is not about to escape the grasp of the General Court Martial as Ugandans have been anticipating since the ruling of the Supreme Court.

With all eyes on Dr. Kizza Besigye's case, many have been left wondering whether his life is now in the hands of the President  considering that the statement read that the final decision would entirely be made by the Chairman of the high command who happens to be none other than President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni

Many opposition groups are dissatisfied with this, stating that Kizza Besigye is exactly where the ruling party wants him, at their mercy and they keep urging people not to give up but rather keep speaking up on the injustice Kizza Besigye is facing until their voices are finally heard.

What is your take on this matter?
