Bobi Wine vows not to stain his political reputation by getting involved with the Kizza Besigye call for an armed resistance.

    in summary
Bobi Wine stated that he would not lead a campaign for Besigye's release after his plan failed because he is not meant to clean up other people's messes.

Leader of the National Unity Platform party Robert Kyagulanyi, famously known as Bobi Wine has received a lot of backlash online after he came out and washed his hands clean off the Kizza Besigye call where he advised the use of armed resistance against the Ugandan Government.

It should be noted that Kizza Besigye is currently in detention on cases of possession of illegal fire arms and ammunition. To a great extent, many have come out to state that they believe Kizza Besigye could have been planning a retaliation of sorts against the Government, something that led to his arrest (or rather abduction)

While speaking publicly on January 24, 2025, Bobi Wine stated that he is all for peace and he would rather fight for a political change peacefully rather than indulge in war which could cost many people their lives. Bobi Wine therefore stated that he is to stay true to his commitment to peaceful methods in a bid to reach a political change.

He further went ahead to state that he is not about to risk staining his Political career as well as Political reputation  by backing up those who advocate for violence like Dr. Kizza Besigye

“Our stance is clear and has never changed. We as a party  are dedicated to challenging dictator Museveni through peaceful and non violent means. We are not picking up guns and knives. We are not risking people's lives." Bobi Wine stated

Bobi Wine also took the chance to respond to the criticism he has been getting regarding his silence on Dr. Kizza Besigye's case. He stated that he would not lead a campaign for Besigye's release after his plan failed because he is not meant to clean up other people's messes.

Bobi Wine also made it clear that since their approach to the political change in Uganda is different,  he is not willing to work with Dr. Kizza Besigye.

There have been harsh responses to Bobi Wine with many stating that he has abandoned Kizza Besigye, a fellow opposition leader. Many have stated that the opposition is stronger together but what Bobi Wine has done is going to create a huge rift in the opposition of Uganda.

Many have even pointed out that if at all Bobi Wine were in Besigye's shoes, Besigye would never have stayed silent about that kind of oppression.

Mathias Mpuuga, a prominent political figure also joined in on the criticism by calling Bobi Wine a hypocrite. He further claimed that Bobi Wine always tends to ignore his fellow opposition members when they need help the most yet on their part, they never abandon him when he calls for help.
