Makerere Universitys 75th graduation ceremony will see 13,658 students, including 53 females, awarded degrees and diplomas over five days next week. The event features strict security measures, with highlights including two days for MUBS graduates due to increased numbers.

Makerere University - MUK is set to graduate a total number of 13,658 students during its 75th graduation ceremony scheduled to run for five days next week, from Monday to Friday. This significant milestone will see students from various disciplines celebrate their academic achievements.

The graduating class consists of 7,297 females (53 percent) and 6,361 males (47 percent), highlighting a continued effort towards gender balance in education. According to Prof. Mukadasi Buyinza, the University Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, the majority of the graduates, 11,463, will receive bachelor’s degrees. Additionally, 1,813 students will be conferred with master’s degrees, 243 will obtain postgraduate diplomas, and eight will be awarded undergraduate diplomas.

The week-long event will kick off on Monday with students from the College of Education and External Studies (CEES), Computing and Information Sciences (CoCIS), Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources and Biosecurity (CoVAB), and the School of Law (SoL) taking center stage. On Tuesday, graduates from the College of Natural Sciences (CoNAS), Health Sciences (CHS), and Business and Management Sciences (CoBAMS) will follow.

Makerere University Business School (MUBS), an affiliate institution based in Nakawa, will hold its graduation on Wednesday and Thursday at the Makerere main campus. This year, MUBS students have been allocated two days, an increase from the usual one, due to the rising number of graduates from the institution. A total of 5,570 students from MUBS will graduate in various business-related programs.

The ceremony will conclude on Friday with students from the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES), Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT), and Humanities and Social Sciences (CHUSS) receiving their awards.

Prof. Mukadasi emphasized the need for order and security during the event. Each graduand is allowed to invite only two guests, and their names must be submitted in advance for verification. Invitation cards will be issued accordingly.

To ensure a smooth and safe ceremony, strict regulations will be enforced. Prohibited items include alcohol, dangerous weapons, canned food and drinks, cameras, large bags, bottled drinks, firearms, pocket radios, batteries, and chemicals. Graduands and their guests are advised to adhere to these guidelines to avoid disruptions.

The 75th graduation ceremony marks yet another chapter in Makerere University’s legacy as a premier institution of higher learning, celebrating the academic achievements of its students while setting the stage for their future endeavors. Owning a degree symbolizes achievement, opportunity, and the foundation for personal and professional growth in life.
