    in summary
The 2024 Uganda census data reveals a significant youth surge, with over 70 of the population under 30 years old and a gender split favoring females slightly. This demographic shift underscores the need for focused investments in youth development, education, and rural infrastructure to support Uganda's future growth and development.

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has unveiled the findings of the 2024 national census, highlighting a significant rise in the country’s youth population, with over 70% of Ugandans aged below 30 years.

Uganda’s latest census data, released by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), has spotlighted a demographic shift towards a youthful population, marking profound implications for national development strategies.

    J

According to the data, more than 70% of Uganda's population falls below the age of 30, with 22.7% aged between 18 to 30 years.

This surge in youth numbers reflects a growth rate of 3.5% annually since the last census in 2014, underscoring the urgent need for targeted investments in education, employment, and healthcare.

Dr. Chris N. Mukiza, Executive Director and Census Commissioner of UBOS, emphasized the imperative of prioritizing youth-centric initiatives.

"The data highlights the need for urgent investment in youth development programs, education, and job creation," Dr. Mukiza stated. "Addressing these priorities is crucial to ensuring a prosperous future for Uganda."

Gender dynamics also emerged prominently in the census findings, revealing a slight majority of females comprising 51% of the total population (23,331,814), compared to males at 49% (22,568,186). Furthermore, the data illustrated a higher population density in rural areas, where 70% of Ugandans reside (31,929,414), with urban areas accommodating 30% (13,970,586).

The demographic insights provided by the census are expected to guide policymakers, development partners, and stakeholders across various sectors.

By understanding these demographic trends, stakeholders can formulate targeted strategies to meet the evolving needs of Uganda’s population and facilitate sustainable national development.

“The census data provides a comprehensive snapshot of Uganda’s demographic landscape," reiterated Dr. Mukiza. "It serves as a critical tool for evidence-based decision-making and planning."

Moving forward, the UBOS remains committed to delivering accurate and reliable data to support Uganda's development agenda. The census data not only informs policy formulation but also ensures that interventions are effectively tailored to meet the diverse and dynamic needs of Uganda's population in the years ahead.

The release of Uganda's 2024 census data by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics marks a pivotal moment in understanding the country's demographic landscape. With a notable surge in the youth population and insights into gender disparities and urban-rural dynamics, the data provides a clear roadmap for policymakers, development partners, and stakeholders to prioritize investments in education, employment, healthcare, and infrastructure.

By harnessing these insights and adopting evidence-based strategies, Uganda can foster inclusive and sustainable development that empowers its youth and ensures a prosperous future for all its citizens.

The commitment to leveraging accurate census data underscores Uganda's dedication to informed decision-making and effective resource allocation in advancing national progress.
