Omutujju, real name Gereson Wabuyi, after his October 1 concert at Lugogo Cricket Oval, which was highly attended, declared himself Uganda’s number one artiste, before giving the position to Eddy Kenzo a few days later after his first declaration. The change in his declaration came after he received a lot of back lash from Netizens as they called him disrespectful to the music legends as he put them all below himself yet to them, he was still real raw.
When he mentioned that Kenzo was the leader of the music industry in Uganda, he announced Bobi Wine as number two, Jose Chameleone as number three, David Lutalo as number four, and declared himself number five.
Singer Ykee Benda, who performed at his concert, said there is no problem with talking highly of yourself as long as you respect people in the industry. Wycliffe known as Ykee Benda, told his friend Gravity Omutujju that it’s okay for him to brag as long as he does it respectfully.
Benda was commenting on Omutujju’s recent bizarre media appearances in which he ousted a number of musicians, including Bebe Cool, Jose Chameleone, and Bobi Wine, and later retracted his statements in a press conference that saw him burst into tears as he claimed he was being framed of disrespect of the three musical legends.
Ykee however came out and mentioned that realistically, everyone believes themselves to be the best in the jobs they do and it is no different with Gravity. He mentioned that if you do not attach value to yourself, you will be undermined in the end so it is only realistic that you put yourself first.
“Everyone is number one, I’m number one. Tell me, who doesn’t have a hit? People you are calling number one, we have the same hits as them. Let’s respect ourselves, but bragging is not bad. You’ve to know yourself, if you don’t, people will undermine you. Gravity should brag, but let him not be misled that Ykee won’t brag. Ykee has to brag, too, because we are great people,” Benda said while speaking to journalists.
Meanwhile, Ykee Benda will be holding a concert on May 13, 2023, at Hotel Africana in Kampala.
