The journey of song writing must be one of the toughest as I have come to notice. The number of times that song writers come out to express discontent with the artistes they have collaborated on projects with is quite shocking.
We all saw when Music Producers came out and decided to fight what they believed as an injustice to their work, saying they are paid peanuts and then disrespected by musicians after they have used them. This led to the question. What about song writers? Are they really in a good position in Uganda's entertainment industry? That’s a question you should ponder on.
However, during this one Interview with Sanyuka TV, Musician and songwriter Mudra D’ Viral has also come out and talked of the woes he has faced as a song writer. Before Mudra picked up the mic and ventured into music hands on, he was a song writer working behind the scenes. Currently however, he does his song writing alongside with his music.
Mudra has voiced his discontent towards certain individuals in the music industry for whom he has written songs for failing to recognize his efforts despite him putting in a huge effort.
“Some of the people I write for may not appreciate this work that I do for them but I do it for them out of love. As for me, my agreement with them always is me getting my loyalties but not instant payments, I don’t need the artist’s help in any way,” Mudra D’ Viral has stated
According to Mudra, his motivation for writing songs is due to his genuine desire to connect with his audience and convey meaningful messages through his music. This is majorly why he laments that despite his genuine intentions and hard work, certain artists whom he has collaborated with have failed to acknowledge his contributions adequately.
Mudra went on to state that however much money is important for him, he does not make it the epitome in his song writing career. For him, the primary focus is on receiving the recognition and respect he deserves for his artistic endeavors.
Mudra also states that he first met musician Ava Peace as a song writer and he therefore penned down a few projects for her. According to Mudra, this is where their journey together begun. He however states that he did not receive as much payment from Ava Peace as he had anticipated before.
“Well, am not saying she did not pay me. I am just saying that was not what I was expecting from a moneybags like her.” He states
