* Queen Margrethe ll announced her abdication on New year's day.

The world's only reigning Queen and longest serving living European monarch in Europe will step down on January which will be 52 years to the day she became queen. The annouciation was a surprise to many Danes. The 83 year old queen is quoted to have said " l will the throne to my son, Crown Prince Frederik as she announced live on T.V . Queen Margrette ll is one of the world's only reigning queen and longest serving monarch in Europe taking the throne in 1972 after her father king Frederik lX died.The resigning Queen also said she made the decesion after a period of reflection following surgery on her back early last year. She concluded by thanking the Danish people for the support rendered to her over the years.
Crown Prince succeeds from his mother as the next reigning monarch of Denmark however he claims he is going to continue being himself and therefore never is he going to lock up his himself in any fortresses. The 55 year old is married to Australian born Princess Mary who grew up from the lsland of Tasmania when the pair met in Sydney in 2000 during the Olympic games. The couple are now about to get to helm of Denmark another constitutional monarch and therefore they are bound to head the mainland together with Greenland and the Faroe lslands.We all guess the queen made the right choice and realised that it was time to handle over to the next generation to steerr the nation.
