Last evening at the BK Arena - Kigali where the 2023 FIBA AfroBasketball women's tournament is ongoing, Uganda's Gazelles put on a spirited display to knockout neighbours Democratic Republic of Congo 78-62.
The game started off on a high for DRC where the Gazelles kept getting unnecessary fouls. The girls however pulled up their stockings in the 3rd quater and started giving the Congolese a run for their money.
Gazelle's key players Jane asinde, Janon Otto and youngster Lydia Babirye really switched up play starting with the second half and caused unrest to the Congolese half. Babirye managed 11 dimes, with a highlight reel pass to Akullu from her own half.
The relentless supporters of the Gazelles also played a crucial part in the team's win. The Gazelles are facing off the hosts Rwanda tonight at 7pm for a place in the Semi finals. The Gazelles' victory last night saw them qualify for their first ever quarter finals.
