    2023 was a year of challenges, but also of triumphs. And no one knows that better than these 26 Ugandans who made their mark on the world. From music to art, from activism to innovation, and from sports to social impact, these Ugandans showed us what it means to be bold, creative, and passionate. They are not just names; they are icons of Uganda's spirit.

    Artists and Creatives

    Sheebah Karungi: The "Queen of Dancehall" slayed the global scene, dropping fire collaborations and topping charts. Her music crossed boundaries, shining a spotlight on Uganda's talent.

    Abryans: This fashion designer and stylist made waves in the fashion industry, creating stunning outfits for celebrities and influencers. He is also the founder of the Abryanz Style and Fashion Awards, an annual event that celebrates African fashion excellence.

    Nakibembe Sarah: This young visual artist wowed audiences with her colorful murals, raising awareness on mental health and women's empowerment through her art.

    Mathew Nabwiso: Uganda's fashion scene flourished under the vision of Nabwiso, whose eco-friendly and culturally inspired designs won international praise.

    Bobi Wine: This pop star-turned-politician challenged President Museveni’s 35-year rule, rallying millions of Ugandans behind his vision of a new and inclusive Uganda. Despite facing violence, intimidation, and arrests, he remained steadfast in his quest for democracy and justice

    Vanessa Nakate: This climate activist was a powerful voice against climate apathy, rallying youth and calling out world leaders to act on the climate crisis.

    Zari Hassan: This socialite, entrepreneur, and reality TV star dazzled fans with her glamorous lifestyle, fashion sense, and business acumen. She is the CEO of Brooklyn City College, a South African-based educational institute, and one of the stars of the show Young, Famous & African.

    Joan Nabulire: This social entrepreneur changed the game of menstrual hygiene management by creating affordable and reusable pads, empowering women and girls in rural areas.

    Joshua Kisakye: Kisakye's tech startup, KawaSpace, gave rural farmers access to market information and digital tools, transforming agriculture and boosting incomes.

    Sylvia Owori: Owori's fashion tech platform, The Hive, supported and empowered aspiring fashion entrepreneurs, creating a vibrant ecosystem for Uganda's fashion industry.

    Jacob Kiplimo: This young long-distance runner broke records, winning the World Cross Country Championships and becoming a Ugandan athletics legend.

    Joshua Cheptegei: The Olympic gold medalist and world record holder in the 5,000m and 10,000m continued to inspire a generation of young Ugandan athletes.

    Halimah Nakayi: Nakayi's bronze medal in the women's 800m at the World Athletics Championships showed that Ugandan women were a force on the world stage.

    James Okidi:  This motorcycle taxi driver used his platform to teach children about road safety, earning him the nickname "Boda Boda Teacher."

    Aisha Namukwaya: After losing her leg in an accident, Namukwaya founded a sports academy for persons with disabilities, proving that anything is possible with determination.

    The "Kasana United" farmers: This group of women defied traditional gender roles and used innovative farming techniques to increase their yields and become role models in their community.

    These are just some of the many Ugandans who made 2023 a year to remember. Their stories remind us that even the smallest actions can have a big impact, inspiring hope and progress for a better future.
