A few weeks ago, news that President Museveni had passed away flooded social media. Some indicated that the President had been airlifted to Germany in a critical condition.
However, the President appeared at State House, healthy and directed Police and sister security agencies to track and arrest those behind his death rumours.
Just a few days after this, the Police in Luweero District have arrested Jamilu Ssekyondwa, a twenty five year old NUP activist for circulating false news on Museveni's death.
According to Police, Jamilu is part of a group which has been sharing false news on WhatsApp and promised to hunt down the others still on the run.
Patrick Maikula, the acting DPC in Luweero confirmed the arrest and explained that Jamilu is currently in detention as investigations are ongoing.
He also explained that the suspect could be charged with Cyber Harassment, contrary to section 24(1), 2(a) of the computer misuse Act.
