    Dr Paul Kawanga Ssemogerere, former Presidential candidate is dead.

    Born 11th February 1932 in the present day Kalangala District, the former Democratic Party (DP) died aged 90 in his sleep in the wee hours of Friday morning from his home in Rubaga Division in Kampala.

    It is sad that the political figure and pro-democracy icon has been unwell for a sometime prior to his death.

    According to his young brother, John Baptist Kawanga, his elder brother's health detoriated on Thursday at around 10pm before his was doctor called to check on him and he left.

    He stresses that he was not stable until in the wee hours of Friday morning when he returned from the shower and collapsed on his bed.

    Before retiring from active politics in 2005, Kawanga had been leader of the opposition Democratic Party for 25 years and a key notable player in the Ugandan Political sphere.

    Political players have described the late as a true statesman and significant political figure in the Ugandan politics.

    May his soul Rest in Peace.
