Earlier today 9th November, 2023 through its verified social handles, the U.S Embassy Uganda has directed its staff to not attend the Nyege Nyege festival in Jinja from November 9-12, 2023. Due to security concerns in Uganda.
This follows an ADF militia commander being arrested on Tuesday for the murder of two foreign tourists in Uganda and also being charged with a school massacre in June, a Ugandan general said.
Due to fear of retaliation from ADF for their arrested member, US Embassy advised U.S. citizens not attend the festival. U.S. citizens should also read our most recent Security Alert from November 6.
U.S. citizens should:
• Stay alert in locations frequented by tourists.
• Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive information and alerts and make it easier to locate you in an emergency overseas.
• Follow the Department of State on Facebook and Twitter and visit travel.state.gov.
The US embassy Precautioned their Citizens here in Uganda.
