The Feb 8th national election has continued to spread unrest in Pakistan with the government deciding to opt for disruption of social media platforms as a meams to scale down protests.
This comes after an electoral official admiited to fraud during the election that still saw the party of the imprisoned former Prime Minister lmran Khan defeat the military coalition government
A series of internet black outs and suspension of mobile phone services were reported across the country on election day an action that can only be perpetrated by the government.
The lnterior ministry spokesperson said that the government was trying to respond to "recent incidents of terrorism" in the country and to "maintain law and order" and deal with possible threats
Pakistan experienced another large scale X outage Feb, 10 two days after the election as evidence of election rigging started to surface online forcing critics to speak against the country's polling
Liaqat Ali Chatta, the commissioner Rawalpindi decided to hand himself over to the police after admitting helping to manipulate election results and personally supervised the switching of 70,000 votes. " We converted losers to winners" he said.
It is still unclear as to who may be behind the encroachmemts on X despite the company refusing to immediately comment on the issue. Even the X owner Elon Musk, the second richest person in the word has not yet dropped a comment concerning the matter.
The election in Pakistan has been marreed with trouble even before it began. Popular leader, former Prime Minister as well founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-lnsaf(PTI) centrist party was sentenced to 10 years in jail on counts of exposing state secrets after he waved a confidential document at a rally.
The action was also followed with the banning of the party's symbol as it was nolonger used to identify candidates on national merit forcing all PTI candidates to run as independents.
The move was highly slammed in the country for creating the accessibility issue in a country where over 62% of the nationals are illiterate.
Nawaz Sharif, Khan's main opposition and military preferred candidate was cleared of all his long standing charges ahead of the election inorder to totally dismantle the PTI parliamentary majority.
Despite the meddling into the elections, PTI backed candidates did gain more votes than any other political party in the country winning 93 of the total 264 seat.
The PTI has called for the resignation of the country's election chief and has also demanded an inquiry into the claims of election rigging.
