When the Uganda National Musicians Federation under the wise leadership of musician Eddy Kenzo got the money they were expecting from the Government, many musicians believed that this was an oasis in the desert that they had been waiting for!
Well, I guess not! It seems like the already established artistes are the ones that are benefitting from this Government fund while the struggling and upcoming artistes are not even anywhere near the stated fund.
Many musicians have come out to call upon Eddy Kenzo to use this money, majorly to benefit upcoming musicians that are financially struggling, aid them in either making or promoting their music, something that Eddy Kenzo stated he would put into consideration.
A few musicians are unhappy with the way the Federation is handling these funds, stating that the distribution of his money is entirely unfair for struggling musicians. One of the musicians that has come out to state the unfairness of the Federation and its money distribution methods is Azawi.
Via her X account, Azawi came out to state that she is really frustrated regarding the loaning practices of the Uganda National Musicians Federation. Azawi went on and expressed surprise at the differences in loan amounts between established artists and the struggling or upcoming artists.
According to Azawi, the already established musicians are getting more money than the struggling musicians. To her dismay, the established artistes are even getting this money free of charge, not as a loan whereas the struggling musicians are being given snippets of this money as loans on top of that!
“The Federation SACCO money was given out but it’s shocking that the already “established” artists are the ones that got the fattest amounts and are not obliged to pay back. (as in bbo babawa buwi kavangata). However those who are struggling are the ones borrowing with duty to payback.” She stated
Azawi’s biggest worry however is the repercussions that await these struggling musicians of they fail to pay back these loans that they have taken from Uganda National Musicians' Federation. This is when she stated that they could be at a risk of losing their entire music catalogs due to this.
“However those who struggling are the ones are borrowing. My question is, Do these struggling artists know the repercussions of failure to payback government money? What if the government takes their entire music catalogue, are they ready for that?” She stated
