While countries across the continent prepare to participate in the forthcoming AFCON tournament, many other countries have come in to express interest in hosting the 2027 AFCON tournament. Among the interested nations include the East African countires Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.
The Council for East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) xcame up with a bid named PAMOJA, envisioning the three East African countries to take on the mantle and host the prestigious Africa Cup of Nations Championship.
However, while it's okay to dream big, many sports fanatics within the region laughed off the bid, citing the very obvious hinderance being lack of sports facilities with CAF standards. This hasn't phased the hopes of CECAFA boss Mr. Auka Gacheo, who regardless of the many hinderances still believes the three nations are capable of hosting the tournament in 2027 if given a chance.
"There is a huge probability as a region (Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania) that we stand a chance. As CECAFA, we are going around looking at the logistics and admin side of things on how we can host such a big tournament successfully if we get the opportunity."
Unlike the rest of the three bidding countries, Uganda seems to be doing very badly in terms of sports infrastructure, given thaat even the National Stadium Namboole has been closed off since 2020, and has been under renovation since then.
With Namboole being under renovation until God knows when, the country still doesn't have other stadiums fit to host mere CAF qualifier matches, and the Uganda Cranes has had to play its home games in other countries like Tanzania and as far as West Africa.
