In 1998, American economist, Paul Kraugman, predicted that the internet would simply be a fad and will grow slowly. This indeed did sort of happen.
Now that internet is the main topic on the world development, people are expecting things to be more of technology in a few years to come to the extent that they expect every single thing to be done and accomplished by AIs including things like relationship satisfaction and happiness but Bill Gates seems to disagree with this.
In his interview with Dax Shepard on the Armchair Expert podcast, the Microsoft co founder shares his thoughts on AI and the future of which he does not speak of them satisfying relationship needs in the near future like people see it.
He talks about his own experience with the AI as he shares his comment about AI use.
“I’m using it all the time and saying ‘Okay, no, it's not good enough for this...but wow, it is good enough for that.”
He also continues to say that people should not expect AIs to solve a problem that they are not good at at the moment anytime from now.
“If it is a problem that humans are not good at dealing with then present techniques don't create some novel approach.”
He clarifies the fact that AI essentially works a lot faster at doing tasks that humans do slowly and that it shall not magically solve issues related to human happiness and relationship satisfaction like mentioned earlier. However, when it comes to therapy or counselling as such, he thinks AIs can do this kind of job just carefulness is all that is required.
“I actually think in mental counseling, AIs will play a role, but boy, we're going to have to be very careful about that.”
“That’s going to require a lot of work that has not been done yet.”
What people expect and what Gates sees is quite on a different line hence we are expecting too much of the technology future seeing the AI as our solution to all problems which might actually not be the deal.
Developing AI that can actually do almost fifty percent of human brain work is not a day's work rather years and years so what the rest of the world sees is not what might happen but is close to what might be there.
In a world of technology, you will still hustle with those relationship issues.
