Nathaniel Charles Jacob Rothschild, the 4th Baron Rothschild breathed his last this week on Monday 26th at his country home in Berkshire. Part of the family that founded lsrael, here is a little incite on how it happened.
Being laid to rest, his death reminds us of the role played by his predecessors in the formation and existence of lsrael.
Jacob was a British peer, investment blanker and a well known and acknowledged philanthropist who was known for his bid in numerous charitable works.
He also held several positions pertaining business, finance and the British public life till his retirement at 80 years of age.
Taking a little dig into history, the Rothschild family is acknowledged for the relentless efforts exerted after world war one to ensure that the Jews got themselves a home in the Arab dominated middle east Asia.
Jacob's great uncle Walter Rothschild was directly addressed in the Balfour declaration which proposed the need to form a home for all jews in Europe and save them from persecution which could wipe out the entire race.
In addition Walter Rothschild's friendship with lsrael's first president Chaim Weiszman and prime minister David Ben Gurrion highlights the family's influence in the early Zionist efforts despite the result bringing turmoil with no solution found since the nation's inception in 1948.
How did the events transpire?
The Balfour declaration was a formal document that expressed the by then British aim to establish a home for the Jewish people in Palestine.
lt arrived in form a letter from Arthur Balfour, the then British foreign secretary and was addressed to Walter Rothschild, the leader of the Anglo-Jewish people in Britain.
The decalaration was by no means worked upon overnight, it had been drafted for several years and involved a number of people before it was finally sent out.
Viewed as the statement that catalysed the process of ethnic cleansing in Palestine, Walter Rothschild drafted the declaration to suit zionist interests despite retiring from Parliament in 1910.
In an autobiography produced by George Lloyd, Walter Rothschild is said to have advised the former who was then prime minister to establish a war cabinet that pushed and made sure that all the zionist plans were achieved.
ln 1945 at the end of world war ll, he wrote a letter to the U.N to the five permanent members of the U.N detailing the declaration of the Zionist state of lsrael and this was achieved later in 3 years later when the state was then officially declared by Prime Minister David Ben Gurion.
The creation of a christian state in a muslim dominated region sparked off a six months war in which Rothschild used his influence to have the British army supply weapons to Israel which so explains why it so single handedly defeated six nations alone.
The Rothschilds will forever be remembered in the history of lsrael and are perceived by many as the nation's founding fathers.
